From The Edge of Justice to Crossing the Line, Clinton McKinzie has captivated readers with thrillers that combine heart-pounding action with searing human drama-and feature a truly unforgettable hero, Special Agent Antonio Burns. Now McKinzie delivers a new novel filled with his trademarks-the thrill of danger, the clash between the law and the lawless, and the struggles of a family bound by love, loyalty, and a hunger for adventure. Here McKinzie takes us to a stark Wyoming landscape, where one tragic moment plunges Antonio Burns into a whirlpool of hate, violence, and revenge. Badwater Antonio Burns is at a crossroads-he rarely sees his six-month-old daughter, and his career has spiraled downward from hotshot golden boy to nearly having his badge confiscated. And things are about to get even worse. When a ten-year-old boy dies in a drowning incident in Badwater, Wyoming, the townspeople want the tourist they feel is responsible convicted of murder. In an already explosive case, Burns has been forced into working for the prosecution-and when a media-hungry celebrity lawyer takes over the defense, justice turns into a charade. Clinging to his sanity by climbing the crags and caverns of a local canyon, recovering from the near death of his daredevil brother and his breakup with the mother of his child, Antonio tries to turn his back on this situation. But he can’t. He finds one crucial piece of evidence, makes one mistake with a woman, and then turns to his brother, Roberto, for help. Soon he’s all the way in-no matter what the cost to his career, his life, or to the people who still count him as one of their own…. The spellbinding story of a cop drawn to danger, a community steeped in hatred, and an explosive mix of opportunists, idealists, and a few very bad men, Badwater is a taut, thunderous novel-and Clinton McKinzie at his electrifying best.

Forensic geologists Cassie Oldfield and Walter Shaws embark on a perilous hunt–tracking a terrorist who has stolen radioactive material that is hotter than the desert in August. He threatens to release it in America’s most fragile national Park, Death Valley. But first he must stop the geologists who are closing in. As the hunt turns dangerous, Cassie and Walter will need grit along with their field skills to survive this case. For they are up against more than pure malice. The unstable atom–in the hands of an unstable man–is governed by Murphy’s Law. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. And it does. REVIEWS "Fans of Nevada Barr will love this suspenseful literary mystery, where the brutal Death Valley landscape is as much a character as the renegade radworkers, dangerously eccentric desert rats, and dogged geologists trying to prevent a nuclear disaster." – Lisa Brackmann, author of the literary suspense novel ROCK PAPER TIGER, an Amazon Top 10 Mystery and Thriller Pick "In this superb, taut, action-packed thriller set in the California desert, a highway hijacking turns toxic and Cassie Oldfield, forensic geologist, is called in to help the FBI and the EPA’s Radiological Emergency Response Team track down stolen casks of nuclear waste. Sophisticated soil analysis is not normally a deadly occupation, yet before it’s all over, Cassie comes face to face with a sociopathic killer and with her own mortality. Notice to criminals: watch out for Cassie She knows where you’ve been. Fans of Nevada Barr are going to love this book just as much as I did." – Marcia Talley, Agatha and Anthony award-winning author of the Hannah Ives mysteries "BADWATER is superb. It has a great plot with many twists and surprises, featuring real-life characters. The author did a very find job of characterizing the disconnect between all the measures intended to assure safety and the reality of things sometimes being unsafe. Truly well-written and engaging. A joy to read." – David Lochbaum, head of the Nuclear Safety Project, Union of Concerned Scientists

During the frigid Wyoming winter of 1887, the infamous killer Langdon Dorsey awaits the noose in the suffocating confines of the Wyoming Territorial Prison. Although convicted of multiple murders, Dorsey is adamant in proclaiming his innocence. But there can be no doubt that the body count began to rise from the moment that Dorsey arrived in the frontier mining town of Badwater, falsely claiming to be a Baptist minister. Could Dorsey really be the psychopathic killer he is reputed to be? Or could the guilty party be his beautiful young partner in crime, the seductress he has grudgingly fallen in love with? Or might the killer be the brutal gunman that has returned from Dorsey’s past to haunt him once again?A silver-tongued con man impersonating a man of the cloth…A stunning young beauty turned grifter…A frontier town where human life is valued almost not at all…And a gospel unlike any the townsfolk had ever heard before…

W.A.R.: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose

W.A.R.: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose

$15.88

A big, brash history of Guns n’ Roses charismatic, talented and idiosyncratic leader "An archetypal rock biography that captures the runaway-train spirit of the singer and his band–You don’t have to be a Guns N’ Roses fanatic to dig this energetic, comprehensive, few-holds-barred portrait of modern metal’s most charismatic figure."–"Kirkus Reviews" Even in the rock world, a figure like Axl Rose doesn’t come along very often. Mercurial and brilliant, deluded and imperious, Rose defies easy description. "W.A.R." reveals Rose’s childhood influences (and how he got his name), tracks the birth of G n’ R and delves into the stories behind their monster albums "Appetite for Destruction" and "Use Your Illusion." But with those successes came excesses–drugs, infighting and a lead singer who morphed from eccentric to seemingly unhinged. Journalist Mick Wall had unprecedented access to Rose and G n’ R during their heyday and gives a more richly detailed portrait of the band than you’ve ever read before. "W.A.R." has fresh views on: –the death of two fans at the Donington Park concert in England –Rose’s fallout with all the other original G n’ R band members, including Slash –fights with Kurt Cobain, Vince Neil and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger –Rose’s no-shows at concerts throughout his career –the lead singer’s becoming a recluse at his Malibu mansion for most of the last fifteen years –the much-gossiped-about and long-awaited album "Chinese Democracy"

Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wildewas born on the 16th October 1854 in Dublin Ireland. The son of Dublin intellectuals Oscar proved himself an outstanding classicist at Dublin, then at Oxford. With his education complete Wilde moved to London and its fashionable cultural and social circles. With his biting wit, flamboyant dress, and glittering conversation, Wilde became one of the most well-known personalities of his day. His only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray was published in 1890 and he then moved on to writing for the stage with Salome in 1891. His society comedies produced enormous hits and turned him into one of the most successful writers of late Victorian London. Whilst his masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest, was on stage in London, Wilde had the Marquess of Queensberry, the father of his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, prosecuted for libel. The trial unearthed evidence that caused Wilde to drop his charges and led to his own arrest and trial for gross indecency. He was convicted and imprisoned for two years’ hard labour. It was to break him. On release he left for France, There he wrote his last work, The Ballad of Reading Gaol in 1898. He died destitute in Paris at the age of forty-six sipping champagne a friend had brought with the line Alas I am dying beyond my means’. Here we publish the majority of his reviews. They are a master class of art as he effortlessly moves from artist to artist, analaysing and revealing just what it is we should take in from each.
