The Practical Library Trainer

$33.95

Develop a library staff training program that really works! To stay on top of the lightning-fast changes in the library field and provide your patrons with the best service possible, you need to establish and sustain an effective program for training your staff. The Practical Library Trainer examines the concept of the library as a learning place for patrons and staff, offering a comprehensive view of training from an administrator’s perspective. Bruce E. Massis, author of The Practical Library Manager (Haworth), addresses the essential issues of how to develop a strong program of continuous instruction, including customer service, reporting, recruitment, and retention of staff. The book focuses on the integration of staff training as a blended activity instead of an intervention, quelling the notion of training as an add-on to existing staff duties. The current information-rich environment provides your patrons with an abundance of resources to choose from for their research needs. But they can’t do it alone-they need direction from a knowledgeable librarian who can recognize the pedigree, currency, and validity of licensed resources, particularly those available through electronic means. The Practical Library Trainer uses the goal of long-range customer service as a starting point, emphasizing the return on investment possibilities from blended training methods as a key to meeting your patrons’ high expectations of service. The book also provides examples from outside the library community to demonstrate the importance of training on a non-library setting and looks at future training issues. The Practical Library Trainer examines: types of staff training (formal, informal, employer-provided, qualifying, skill improvement) strategies for recruiting and retaining a staff blended learning e-training in-house training how to use professional conferences as continuing education opportunities how to evaluate your training program a sample of an anywhere, anytime education and training program and much more! Customer-Based IP Service Monitoring with Mobile Software Agents

Customer-Based IP Service Monitoring with Mobile Software Agents

$45.84

Presenting mobile software agents for Internet service monitoring, this research monograph discusses newly standardized Internet technologies that allow service providers to offer secured Internet services with quality guarantees. Yet, today the customers of such services have no independent tool to verify (monitor) the service quality. This book shows why mobile software agents are best fit to fill the gap. Key features: – An introduction to standard Internet service enabling and managing technology such as IPSec, DiffServ and SNMP – A generic service monitoring architecture based on mobile agents – An object-oriented implementation of the architecture based on the Java programming language – Several implementations of mobile software agents that can monitor new and emerging Internet services such as virtual private networks (VPN) The book is addressed to mobile agent researchers looking for new and fruitful application areas. It will also be a valuable resource for innovative internet providers who are looking for a service monitoring infrastructure going beyond monthly reports.

Service Virtualization

Service Virtualization

$24.99

Software drives innovation and success in today’s business world. Yet critical software projects consistently come in late, defective, and way over budget. So what’s the problem? Get ready for a shock, because the answer to the problem is to avoid reality altogether. A new IT practice and technology called Service Virtualization (SV) is industrializing the process of simulating everything in our software development and test environments. Service Virtualization is a method to emulate the behavior of components in heterogeneous applications such as “Service-Oriented Architectures” (SOA). Yes, fake systems are even better than the real thing for most of the design and development lifecycle, and SV is already making a huge impact at some of the world’s biggest companies. Service Virtualization:Reality Is Overrated is the first book to present this powerful new method for simulating the behavior, data, and responsiveness of specific components in complex applications. By faking out dependency constraints, SV delivers dramatic improvements in speed, cost, performance, and agility to the development of enterprise application software. Writing for executive and technical readers alike, SV inventor John Michelsen and Jason English capture lessons learned from the first five years of applying this game-changing practice in real customer environments. Other industriesfrom aviation to medicinealready understand the power of simulation to solve real-world constraints and deliver new products to market better, faster, and cheaper. Now it’s time to apply the same thinking to our software. For more information, see servicevirtualization.com.
